Hair Grants



There are a number of hair and wig grants available to people across Ireland that cover a wide range of hair loss conditions.

PRSI Hair Grants: Clients that are eligible for this grant can approval for up to €500 for a wig, Hair topper, hairpiece, in each calendar year. This grants does not cover surgical or topical treatments.

Hair loss must be from a auto immune conditionor treatment of a disease such as cancer or alopecia. Example of the types of alopecia covered are:

A variety of Hair Loss conditions

  • Alopecia areata (which includes alopecia totalis or universalis, diffuse alopecia areata, alopecia ophiasis)
  • Primary scarring alopecias (cicatricial alopecias)
  • Frontal fibrosing alopecia and lichen planopilaris (scarring alopecia)
  • Chemotherapy induced alopecia (anagen effluvium)
  • Alopecia resulting from surgery or trauma, including burns

Financial Support for Hair Loss in Ireland: Grants for Alopecia, Chemotherapy, and More

Hair loss due to medical conditions like alopecia, chemotherapy, or other health issues can be emotionally challenging. Beyond the physical impact, the cost of wigs or hairpieces adds financial strain. Fortunately, Ireland offers grants to ease this burden. This blog outlines two key schemes: the PRSI Treatment Benefit Grant and HSE Wig Grant, helping generally women access the financial aid they deserve.

PRSI Treatment Benefit Grant: €500 for Medical Hair Replacement

If you or your spouse have enough contributions, you may qualify for a €500 grant under the Treatment Benefit Scheme.

Eligibility:

  • Paid at least 52 PRSI contributions (employee or self-employed).
  • A doctor’s certificate confirming hair loss is due to a medical condition (e.g., alopecia, chemotherapy).

How to Apply: Our team will do all the paperwork for you. 

  • We will send you the PRSI form with a list of hair loss conditions which after inspecting your hair the doctor will tick your necessary box with your condition and sign form.
  • Complete the Application for Hair Replacement Grant form (available on welfare.ie).
  • We than Submit to the Department of Social Protection and when we receive payment, you can collect your hair piece.

HSE Wig Grants: €440–€770

HSE Wig grant scheme has assisted thousands of woman across Ireland that have a medical card and a certified hair loss condition like alopecia. HSE Grants are up to €770 per year. Our Team can fill in and complete all the paperwork for you.

Also the HSE have introduced a new policy which is excellent news for clients undergoing Chemotherapy. Chemo patients now require no medical card to be eligible for a hair grant of €770, the only requirement is a hospital or doctors letter.

To be eligible your doctor must tick the form with one of the hair conditions:

How To apply For HSE Wig Grant

Please note to apply you will need a valid Medical Card. Our team will then send you the form which you bring to your doctor to fill in which we send you by email, post or Whatsapp (link above). This form will have a list of various hair loss conditions which are stated above that your doctor must tick one of these conditions for you to be eligible.

As our team fill in the paperwork for you, we then send off your application to your local HSE office to be approved by a deciding officer which can take around 2 to 3 weeks. Once we receive confirmation and the purchase order number from the HSE you can then book in for a consultation and choose your wig or hair topper.
